Oops - I did it again!

Guys.

Let me just say: I would never make it as a lifestyle blogger. I constantly forget to post updates. And I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath since October for news on our adoption journey. 😉

The truth is, it’s hard to know what to say when it feels like… well, not much is happening. But things are moving! So I figured it’s time to give you an update.

October 2024 to January 2025

Honestly, those months are kind of a blur. Not much happened on paper—but we did have the joy of talking with Russell and Eddie every other week. Those calls were a mix of everything: frustration, fun, chaos, and sweet moments. Picture two white people smiling widely at a screen, speaking broken French (but mostly English) to a Haitian man who speaks broken English (but mostly French), who then translates into Haitian Creole for two boys who only speak Creole. It’s adorable. And a little crazy.

We talk over each other. We grin like goofballs. We wave too much. We try our best to make sure they know—without a doubt—that they are loved.

Those video calls have been our lifeline. Even when we can't understand every word, the smiles are huge. Watching how Russell and Eddie care for each other is incredible. They adore one another. We’re so thankful they have each other while they wait.

Recently, our calls have become less frequent. It’s not always safe or possible for our translator to reach the orphanage, given the unrest in the country. Thankfully, we’ve still been receiving photos and video updates. And just to reassure you: even though Haiti is facing a lot of hardship, we’ve been told again and again that the boys are safe.

January 2025 – Now

In January, we got big news: our case had officially moved into the court process! This is essentially the beginning of the end. We were thrilled—until we remembered that “court process” in international adoption speak usually means months of waiting on various government signatures (Ministry of Interiors? Feels very Harry Potter to me).

And then—two weeks ago—we got a curveball. Our agency called to let us know they were terminating their Haiti program.

EXCUSE ME, WHAT?!

I know what you’re thinking: “So… that’s it?!” Thankfully, no. All God’s Children (our agency) doesn’t leave families stranded. They offered guidance on transitioning to another agency, and we’ve officially moved to Nightlight Adoptions. The switch won’t slow our case down at all—everything continues moving forward in Haiti.

Yes, it was a shocking phone call. But weirdly, we feel… refreshed. It gave us something to do again. After so much stillness, it feels good to have some movement, even if it’s administrative. The hope, at this stage, is that our case will be given the official seal of approval from the Haitian government in July (this month!). Our agencies (both former and current) have said that after that, it can take another 7-8 months for the boys to come home. So, we're hoping and praying for a February-March arrival.

We've learned to let go of expectations and to just roll with the punches instead. I've said it before - adoption is not for sissies! We know the Lord is in control.

Thanks for sticking with us through this long (and winding) journey. We’ll keep you posted as best we can—and maybe, just maybe, I’ll remember to update again before another 9 months go by. 😅
